The city of London in the UK won the bid to host the 2012 Olympics. A good time will be had by all. However, some sectors of the economy, notably the construction and transportation sectors will enjoy a boost in revenues but overall the boon remains in doubt. The cost to host the games is high and the people will share the expenses thru taxes. Temporary jobs will be enjoyed by many people. The overall benefits will be small. London’s victory over the other finalists is a particularly harsh blow to France, which economists said had more to gain economically from a successful bid. It would have boosted morale in France. Their economy is not well. A Paris win could have given French companies, consumers and policy makers more courage to take on the country’s economic problems including flagging growth and double-digit unemployment. Maybe, you could buy a bottle of French wine and some French cheese to go with it. Hay! Pick up some French bread and let’s have a picnic. Viva! La France! Live long and prosper. PS. The French people certainly have a way with food. I’m hungry. Let’s find a French Restaurant. Maybe, find one in the restaurant section of this paper. Live, Love and laugh.
